That great philanthropist of Bill Gates

What does Bill Gates have to do with spider beer that invokes the lyrics of a famous song by Max Pezzali, good question!

The beer Adelscott

Adelscott beer has silently disappeared. No one knows what happened to it and why? Adelscot was born in   France with a very particular characteristic: the malt was not toasted but smoked, giving the beer a very pleasant flavour.

The Adelscott is unavailable on the Italian retail market, both in large-scale distribution and in specialized shops. From a recent - July 2024 - search done online it does not seem to be available even from online sellers. At the moment the most likely reason seems to be the closure, decided in 2022 by Heineken, of the brewery, of which it held the control, called De l’Espérance, located in Schiltigheim; on the outskirts of Strasbourg in France.

In particular, from the french page dedicated to the beer Adelscott we learn that on November 15, 2022, the Heineken group had declared that the Brasserie de L’Esperance - which at the time employed 220 people - would be closed in the next three years source wikipedia .

Therefore

The Heineken group is a beer monopolist and there is someone that supports it investing money, namely Bill Gates.

From a verification, the following beers belong to Heineken:

  • Amstel
  • Birra Moretti
  • Dreher
  • Henninger
  • Budweiser
  • Adelscott
  • Affligem
  • Amstel 1870

  • McFarland
  • Messina

  • Prinz
  • Sans Souci
  • von Wunster

The Advise

Why drink beer from a group that has closed historic establishments, laying off hundreds of employees? I don’t agree, I buy craft beers and those that don’t belong to the monopolistic group.
