The cloud

The first cries1 of something that records your data remotely can be found at the dawn of connected cell phones. It has spread silently and politely, for free, used unknowingly by users of this new technology. All the manufacturers have committed themselves to serving the tasty dish of that something that shortly thereafter, with the refinement of marketing, would be called Cloud.

Make available a free space where we can store and share our data, photos, documents, emails, calendar appointments, notes, address books, list of calls made and received… has projected us

In a puffy and enveloping world, unaware that the clouds change appearance when the weather is bad!

Everyone in the frantic race to sign up for those that would have made available the most free space, I am referring for example to Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive etc.

Cloud² - the duplication of the information

In the Android world2 all mobile phone brands ask for registration to their own Cloud which is alongside and overlaps with that of Google. Are you happy with your beautiful, super-space-worthy Samsung paid in a thousand installments? Now you are about to go through the first start-up ritual by to insert dozens and dozens of information, necessarily finding yourself registered on the manufacturer’s site, trying not to miss the opportunity of new features and opportunities that will subsequently be made available.

Apps from the manufacturer that will privilege their own cloud, with the fantastic opportunity to also connect to Google services or third-party services.

A total confusion of which many are unaware.

The manufacturer of the bitten apple is not affected by this duplication as well as Google with Pixel, at least in these cases we have only one interlocutor3.

Now you know

DRASTICLY, if your personal data is subject to Data Breach, take legal action against those that have not guaranteed you protection.

In your opinion

  • Is the CocaCola formula in the cloud?
  • Are confidential company design data in the cloud?
  • Are Pulcinella’s secrets in the cloud4?

How good we are

In the digital administration code - Legislative Decree 7 March 2005, n. 82 art. 68 Comparative analysis of solutions, public administrations acquire computer programs or parts of them in compliance with the principles of economy and efficiency, protection of investments, reuse and technological neutrality, following a comparative technical and economic evaluation between the following solutions available on the market: … software available in cloud computing mode.

All IT managers will dive headfirst into using cloud technologies and software, digital administration tells us so!

Reflection

I leave you with the following reflection:

The Cloud does not exist, behind it there is always someone else’s computer.
